New Photography explores the intersection of two distinct trajectories in contemporary photography. While some artists continue to pursue themes
related to the circulation and manipulation of pictures in the digital age, others have returned to the essential elements of analog photography and its processes as subject matter, reimagining the abstract and painterly potential of the medium.
Featuring works by Lee Arnold, Ellen Carey, Sheree Hovsepian, Brittany Nelson, Liz Nielsen, Mariah Robertson, Paul Anthony Smith, Quinn Tivey, and Max Warsh.

“Thief Among Thieves is a group exhibition featuring the work of more than twenty artists working in a broad range of styles and media whose work speaks to the current moment in both art history and contemporary life. Rather than surveying a single theme, the exhibition instead surveys the multiple directions and contradictory forces in art today. The title suggests that even though artists today have always taken from the past and the world around them, they do so today in a permissive environment, which embraces the interplay between all variety of creative activities, past and present.
Thief Among Thieves will be presented on the second floor of MCA Denver in the Natasha Congdon Gallery, Vicki & Kent Logan Promenade Space, Joseph Crescenti Family Gallery, and the Mary Caulkins & Karl Kister Gallery. This exhibition is co-organized by Nora Burnett Abrams and Adam Lerner.”

Over the past decade, a group of young photographers from North America have taken photography in new directions, largely as a reaction to the ubiquitous presence of digital images, which now form the backbone of contemporary visual experience. Although their practices are diverse, these artists share an investment in placing photography in conversation with other artistic mediums—particularly painting and sculpture—to create hybrid works that are only part picture. In the process of forming this new photographic narrative, the artists have also provoked a re-examination of the medium’s recent history. This has lent further weight to works from the previous generation of photographers that reflects an engagement with materiality, allowing them to emerge as the current moment’s most influential predecessors. In this exhibition, images by these forerunners are shown together with significant works from this most recent generation of practitioners, asserting photography’s physical presence in a world overrun with dematerialized images.

Installed on both floors of the gallery, DAY MOON joins a solo exhibition of Jodie Vicenta Jacobson’s photographs and sculptures upstairs to the curatorial vision of the artist downstairs, inviting a group exhibition to unfold the mythologies and concepts guiding the artist's vision and practice as multiple and collaborative – while blurring the lines between curation and creation. Each floor illuminates the other, aligning the space through the artist's lens. The joint exhibition finds axis around that which exists but is seemingly improbable. Like the mystical unity of opposites implied in a day moon – a joining of the light of day and a celestial night, this collaboration brings Jacobson’s mythology to the fore. By melding several individual methodologies including video, sound, dance/film, painting, photography, sculpture and collage, these specific artists embody some sense of the curator’s inner sensibilities. The multiplicity implied in a single artists vision upstairs, acts as a rhetorical device for the reception of the grouping on the main floor. Kinetic in its influence and bond, a visual and ephemeral poetry is formed between the artist as curator and creator. Riffing on the transference of psychic relationships, the alchemy of creation acts as a shared energy. I as in us.
Jodie Vicenta Jacobson earned her BA from Colorado College and her MFA from Hunter College, CUNY. This is her second solo presentation with Halsey Mckay Gallery. Her work has been exhibited locally and internationally at venues including PS1/MoMA, New York, Albright Knox Gallery, Buffalo, NY, Yancey Richardson Gallery, NY and Gabriel Rolt, Amsterdam. Her work as both an artist and curator has been reviewed in several publications including The New Yorker, Artforum, The New York Times and Frieze magazine. Jacobson is currently Curator-at-Large for Blind Spot Magazine / Photo-Based Art and was Curator at The Horticultural Society of New York from 2003-2009. Jacobson teaches contemporary art and photography at the School of Visual Arts and Parsons the New School for Design. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York

http://tcnjartgallery.tcnj.edu/2014/12/20/tcnjs-spring-exhibition-an-unfixed-image-the-photographic-across-media/
Opening on March 11, 2015, the exhibition An Unfixed Image: The Photographic Across Media will explore the nature of the photographic image and its relationship to embodiment as an object. From its inception the photograph has been duplicitous as it has existed as an image and an object, referenced the real and the fictional, and operated indexically and specifically.
The artists in the exhibition—Lothar Hempel, Leslie Hewitt, Elad Lassry, Marlo Pascual, Eileen Quinlan, Mariah Robertson, John Stezaker, Sara VanDerBeek, and Letha Wilson—create works that engage a porous relationship between analog and digital practices while raising crucial questions about visual strategies and the materiality of the photographic image. Working with diverse methods and materials, these works reflect and destabilize photography’s ubiquity.
The exhibition will be on view through April 26.
